California State Capitol Museum - A long-standing museum and working government seat all in one, the California State Capitol Museum in Sacramento is one of the most educational places your group can visit during your trip! Explore California’s statehood past alongside its lawmaking present with a State Capitol building and State Park tour, both providing you with insightful information you aren’t going to want to miss about the state, past, present, and future.
California State Railroad Museum - The California State Railroad Museum is a true Sacramento gem, a historic and entertaining attraction that will teach your group all there is to know about railroading history in the area and across America. Within this museum, you can explore railroad history via locomotives, exhibits, and rides. The museum itself is a 2-story building located in Old Sacramento, a spot within the State Park system. There are 19 trains total in the collection, the time frame ranging from 1862 to 1944. See everything from developing steam technology of the Southern Pacific No. 1, all the way to the technologically advanced (for its time) Southern Pacific No. 4294.
Hornblower Cruise - Entertaining, educational, and exceptionally scenic, a Hornblower Cruise in Sacramento is never a bad idea for any type of group. These fun cruises take your group along the riverway and provide you with some of the absolute best riverfront views in the city, and that’s saying a lot! The Hornblower Cruise line started in 1980 and is a proud California-based company, with 7 different California ports, and now one in NYC. Choose between the Historic Riverboat Cruise or the Educational Sacramento School River Tour, each option providing your group with top-notch local history, the subjects of settlement, Gold Rush, and the Pony Express all discussed in an exciting way.

Crocker Art Museum - Welcome to Crocker Art Museum, the longest continuously operating art museum in the West. The permanently offered exhibits outside of the special events include a collection of California art, works on paper, European art, international ceramics, photography, Asian art, and African and Oceanic art. Opt-in for a docent-led custom group tour while here, or jump in on a regularly scheduled tour. School and youth groups receive the added bonus of this experience is up to Content Standards for their educational benefit.
Old Town Sacramento - Welcome to Old Sacramento, the historic district that allows guests to eat, shop, play, and learn all in one spot. This entire district takes up 28 acres, the spot also referred to as ‘Old Town’. Within Old Sacramento, you can take a riverboat ride or railroad trek, or perhaps opt-in for a horse-drawn carriage ride or bike journey along the river bank. There are fun underground tours, plus, of course, plenty of historic education opportunities along the way that will give you insight into the city beginnings and life in the Gold Rush era.
Esquire IMAX - At Esquire IMAX your group will be able to experience the best 3D entertainment in the area, this K Street entertainment mecca offering guests both educational documentaries and new hit blockbusters. This ‘affordable and exciting’ opportunity has an extensive film library for guests wishing to participate in a field trip, group outing, scout group, YMCA group, or camp group viewing. Here are a few good examples of what your group can choose from: Adventures in Wild California, To the Arctic 3D, National Parks Adventure 3D, Lewis and Clark Great Journey West, Galapagos 3D.

Effie Yeaw Nature Center - To experience some natural bliss within the bustling urban Sacramento head to Effie Yeaw Sacramento Nature Center, one of the best spots around town to experience local nature and wildlife. This nature center is full of educational exhibits, indigenous animals, and nature trails, the entire site a part of the 100-acre American River Parkway Nature Preserve. The preserve is full of riparian and oak woodlands, meadows, aquatic habitats, and shrublands, plus, of course, plenty of wildlife.
Coloma Resort Panning Class - If your group is looking for outdoor adventure, team-building experiences, and local California hands-on history all in one then this is the spot for you! Coloma Resort is a premier lodging and outdoor entertainment spot, located just about an hour northeast of Sacramento itself. The main draws for us are the onsite recreation and learning options, especially the opportunity to participate in a gold mining class and hands-on experience. Work with gold panning experts as they teach you the ins and outs of panning, guests using salted gold troughs throughout the property.
