Best Friend Animal Sanctuary

Head to Kanab, Utah, for this extra special volunteering opportunity at the famed Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the nation’s largest no-kill shelter that houses over 1,700 homeless animals. This shelter has had over 30 years of experience taking care of animals, and is a leader in reducing animal populations within shelters across the U.S. Here you and your travel group can give back to those furry friends we often overlook and take part in such helpful volunteer activities as walking a dog, cleaning a rabbit run, playing with some pretty cool cats, or even mucking out a horse stall. The workers will do their best to match up your activity with your personal skill set, allowing you to have the most fun, memorable, and rewarding experience possible.

While here you will have to check out all the different onsite animal world, including Dogtown, Cat World, Horse Haven, Piggy Paradise, Bunny House, and Parrot Garden, as well as the more exotic Wild Friends section. Each section warmly welcomes volunteers to help feed, groom, and clean, as well as walk, talk, and play with their resident animals. This is a truly fun and rewarding experience, especially great for the kids. The Best Friends sanctuary even allows you to bring a lonely pet you may have left behind in for a "sleepover" to help them adjust to their soon found forever home!

If you can’t make it up to Utah, don’t worry! There are several Best Friend programs across the nation including those in Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, and New York City. There are also several national events/programs available such as Strut your Mutt and Community Cats. You can also just go local and help your town's very own animal shelter, each and every one typically accepting and needing a helpful hand!
