Welcome to the Briscoe Western Art Museum, the highly popular San Antonio art museum displaying the 'vast and multifaceted story of the American West'!
Inside Briscoe, you will find a plethora of art and artifacts reflecting the history and culture of the west, with over 5 centuries of history covered, from the Spanish conquest to today. The vibrant culture and heritage of the American Cowboy, American Indian, Vaquero, and Pioneer Women of the past are all displayed brilliantly throughout the 3 levels of the museum, and there is even an outdoor sculpture section filled with bronzed iconic figures. This courtyard, more formally known as the McNutt Sculpture Garden, also provides excellent views of the San Antonio River, only adding to the ambiance of it all.
Be sure to set time aside to see such museum favorites as Andy Warhol's 1986 'Cowboys and Indians', one of the many pieces inside working to preserve the cowboy culture. You will also want to see the Diorama of the Alamo Conflict, the restored Chuckwagon, Santa Anna's Ceremonial Sword, and Pancho Villas's last known saddle.
