The Chicago Historical Society is housed within the Chicago History Museum and Research Center. While visiting this location student groups will learn about the interesting history of the city and state through exhibitions and research. The museum contains fascinating exhibits for the students to explore. Featured exhibits include the following: Railroaders: Jack Delano’s Homefront Photography, Vivian Maier’s Chicago, Lincoln’s Chicago, Abraham Lincoln, Unexpected Chicago, Facing Freedom, Chicago: Crossroads of America, Sensing Chicago, The Dioramas, and Treasures. The Chicago: Crossroads of America exhibit focuses on several aspects of the history of the city which Chicago’s changing economy, challenging crises, diverse neighborhoods, groundbreaking innovations, and the lively cultural scene.

The Facing Freedom exhibition contains images, artifacts, and interactive displays that work together to tell personal stories related to freedom. Specific topics explored include women’s suffrage and the formation of unions, Japanese internment, and a local school boycott.

Students can conduct research on a number of topics while here as well within the onsite Research Center. There are photographs, newspapers, and other printed material in this extensive collection. There are also student programs offered at the museum for school groups that provide one-of-a-kind historical information and educational experiences!
