Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum
Located in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs, nestled in the center of one of two popular downtown parks, your group will find the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum. Located within a restored 1903 El Paso County Courthouse, the elegant and historic structure is surrounded by green lawns, colorful flowers, and artistic outdoor sculptures. This museum displays the history and culture of the Pike Peak region, featuring exhibits that emphasize the unique character of this unusual, fascinating, and sometimes wild Front Range community. Thousands of visitors stop by annually, interested to see the history of the area up close and personal, and your group could be among them.
Your group will see permanent displays featuring a collection of artifacts and research interpreting the history and culture of this region. From explorers to hopeful gold rushers, the community which became Colorado Springs and nearby towns were diverse and full of character. Explore history with exhibits like The Midas Touch showcasing the unbelievable lives of two men who discovered gold and became instant millionaires. The City of Sunshine exhibit highlight's the Pikes Peak history of being a destination for health and healing of tuberculosis and other ailments since the late 19th century. Learn about the sanatorium turned university, the devastating Waldo Canyon fire, highlights from American Indian history and cultural artifacts, and so much more!
You can also see, nearby, the Helen Hunt Jackson House and Starsmore Center research library, each explaining mining and agriculture history, health resort beginnings, and onsite military training. You will also learn about family festivals, public programs, tours, presentations, and free classical and jazz concerts that often happen here.
