Dallas Symphony Orchestra

Dallas Symphony Orchestra

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra, or sometimes more commonly referred to as the DSO,  is one of the top cultural groups to see perform while in town! The performance venue of choice for this classical American orchestra is the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center, located centrally in downtown Dallas, more specifically in the Arts District. This organization was first founded in 1900 when a group of 45 musicians equal parts eager and talent joined together under the direction of conductor Hans Kreissig. Since that day this orchestra has only gotten bigger and better, something you will see for yourself while visiting and watching the current conductor, Jaap Van Zweden, do his magic with the orchestra. You will need to wear something that fits into the category of business casual or fine evening wear to fit into the crowd, though there is no official dress code and jeans are permitted for a show.

Currently, at the Meyerson, you will see such shows as Disney’s Fantasia, DSO Christmas Pops, and Tchaikovsky 4. Try to get here at least 30 minutes prior to your show to ensure you find your seat in time, plus we know once you get a look at this building you are going to want to explore a little bit. The structure itself was I.M Pei designed, ranked today as one of the world’s greatest orchestral halls. The glass and metal supports of the circular and light-filled lobby contrast nicely with the perfectly symmetrical shapes in the performance halls, trust us. The acoustics are out of this world here as well, especially when counting in the 4.535 Pipe CB Fisk Opus Organ. Not only are the shows and the design sure to blow you away, but the location of the orchestra center, in general, will too, being ‘centrally located to many popular downtown and uptown eating establishments at all price ranges’. Your group can enjoy fine options such as Paul Martin’s or Fearing's, or perhaps hit a nearby Tex-Mex place. Be sure to save time during the intermission or after the show to visit the Symphony Store as well, stocked with tons of great DSO Merchandise, DCS, books, and musical tools and toys of all sorts!
