Welcome to the Denver Zoo, the 80-acre animal haven that is a popular stop for visitors of any ages, whether you are a kid or kid at heart.
The Denver Zoo is considered to be a 'leader in animal care and visitor experience', a title it has held pride in since opening in 1896. While here your group will be able to participate in guided tours, themed student tours that promote the Colorado Academic Standards, and even various free programs and up-close animal encounters. During one of the tours, a trained volunteer docent will lead your group 'on a journey to experience the wonders of animals and the living world'. The Up-Close Animal Encounters offered on the side provide a seriously unique and fun learning opportunity, an activity we highly recommend for student groups.
If you’ve ever dreamed of getting nose to beak with a penguin, smelling the fish on a sea lion’s breath, seeing the world from a giraffe’s point of view or getting the insider's scoop on elephants, then Up-Close Animal Encounters at Denver Zoo are for you. Up-Close Animal Encounters provide guests with a one of a kind experience by combining up-close animal encounters, intimate keeper interactions and guided tours. -Denver Zoo
While here be sure to check out all the exhibits, some examples including the Toyota Elephant Passage, Predator Ridge, Northern Shores, Giraffe Encounters, and Tropical Discovery. There is also the Be a Zookeeper zone, the train and carousel, and the DINOS! Exhibit. Meet the Amur Leopard, Green Tree Python, or Sumatran Orangutan.

If you work up an appetite there are plenty of dining options along the way. Try Brown Bear BBQ and Smokehouse, the Craft Fine Food Truck, or Dippin' Dots. The Kibongi Market and Coffee Shop is a great place to stop for a pick me up and gift shopping, as well. (There are several other snack stops and gift shops along the way as well).
