Effie Yeaw Sacramento Nature Center

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park ranger Heather Wright leads students from Maple Elementary School on a nature hike at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center in Carmichael, Calif., Sept. 27

The Effie Yeaw Sacramento Nature Center is one of the most beautiful and naturally educational spots in the city, an excellent option for your student group during your visit. Your group will find educational exhibits, indigenous animals, and several different nature trails throughout the site, the nature center a part of the 100-acre American River Parkway Nature Preserve.

The landscape is made up of riparian and oak woodlands, shrublands, meadows, and aquatic habitats,  with several ponds and rivers scattered throughout. You may want to bring some binoculars, and of course, some comfortable hiking shoes or boots, because the ‘watchable wildlife’ opportunities are frequent and reliable. Get ready to see deer, snakes, coyotes, wild turkey, rabbits, hawks, owls, waterfowl, and squirrels galore. Over 1.6 million guests come here each year to experience the natural wonders of the Sacramento area, and the nature center even hosts various group tours, school programs, or adult learning programs, not to mention additional summer nature camp options.
