Locks and Canal Street

Next stop, the Locks, as you and your group explore a small portion of the over 500 miles of navigable waterway containing access to over 200 unique communities across the canal. See all the history and culture you just learned about in person, as well as sight-see the area in general, fish, boat, bike, or hike among the countless bridges and byways found in this area.

Before leaving this stretch of scenic canal land we suggest you fit in one of two things, depending on your time available: 1) A 70-minute guided tour of the Flight of Five and Locks 67-71 aboard the Lockport Cave and Underground Boat Ride. See historic ruins of the Industrial Revolution, a massive man-made water tunnel, and tons of geologically rich flow-stone. 2) Grab a quick, yet seriously delicious, treat from Lake Effect Artisan Ice Cream, the local sweet shop with the most unique and tasty hand-made scoops!

After you’ve seen all you can of the Locks, head over to Canal Street in Lockport to explore the Lockport Community Market. This seasonal market takes place between July and October, the month of October holding the locally popular Locktoberfest, a month-long festival type experience with historic demos, games, live music, and tons of food. At the market, you and your group will be able to explore historic Canal Street while also seeing what the best local farmers, vendors, and crafters have to share. This is a great way to see the local culture of Lockport, as well as pick up some seriously unique produce, spirits, and specialty foods.

There are so many different things to shop for and do here, you can get a psychic reading next to an animal adoption booth, and also buy delicious Amish goods while shopping for bird feeders. Grab a tie-dye shirt, some amazing BBQ food, and try on some local jewelry as you take in all the sights and smells of canal street. Our suggestion? Grab a Black Cat Bread Bagel with a cup of Bonnard's Applewood Hollow cocoa or coffee and enjoy your afternoon!
