Conde Nast Traveler recently revealed the results of their annual Reader's Choice survey, and the results have shown which cities in the United States are the most welcoming, and which are the most hostile.
It may not come as a surprise that Southern Hospitality trumps all, with Charleston, South Carolina coming in the lead for friendliest. Likewise, many could have guessed that more northern, highly populated areas are not so nice -- Newark, New Jersey came in as not only the least friendly in the United States, but the least friendly city in the entire world. Yikes.
Charleston dominated due to its "hospitality, great food, local culture, history, and natural beauty," while the precedent for Newark's low ranking was "Newark is best known for being the site of an airport near New York, and that's the only reason to stop there."
