Within this 5-acre garden area, you will find a collection of 16 different gardens, the entire collection sitting along Alvernon Way. It takes groups on average of 2-3 hours to see it all within the confines of this garden center, with several educational aspects, children’s activities, and community events taking place here regularly, not to mention the extremely popular on-site cafe serving up some of the best foods in Tucson for lunch daily. Learn all about local horticulture, the ecology of the desert in general, and even local natural history during your visit!

These gardens set specifically on the historic Porter Property, a spot that Readers Digest calls the ‘ Best Secret Garden in America’. You will see ‘mature trees and expertly cultivated foliage’ all around you as you explore each of the 16 different specialty gardens. For a real Tucson treat to be sure you make it to the Cactus and Succulent Garden, Barrio Garden, and Herb Garden. These three, in particular, will show you and your group the diversity of nature here within the Tucson desert. One of the more popular features aside from the gardens themselves is the Butterfly and Orchid Pavilion, where you will see hundreds of butterflies from all over the world. As mentioned before, another highly popular part of these gardens is the onsite eatery, Cafe Botanica. You will find deliciously fresh seasonal eats in here!
